Wei Yu, Bosco Leung, Senior Member, IEEE Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada N2L 3G1 Abstract| Distortion and noise due in a bottom-plate sampling mixer is analyzed. The method of Volterra series is applied in the analysis of harmonic distortion, which combines the e ects of continuous time, time varying, and sampling distortions. Frequency domain analysis is applied in the analysis of thermal noise. The method of stochastic di erential equation is used to solve for LO noise. These two noise e ects, when combined with LO jitter, give a complete noise picture. The analysis is performed in sampled data domain. Explicit formulas are given to guide the design of bottom-plate sampling mixers.

Linearization Techniques for Mixers
In the modern high-performance transceivers, mixers (both upand down-converters) are required to have large dynamic range in order to meet the system specifications. The lower end of the dynamic range is indicated by the noise floor which tells how small a signal may be processed while the high end is determined by the non-linearity which causes distortion, compression and saturation of the sig...

A time-varying theory of Volterra series is developed and applied in the sampled-data domain to solve for harmonic and intermodulation distortion of a MOS-based track-and-hold sampling mixer with a nonzero fall-time LO waveform. Distortion due to sampling error is also calculated. These results, when combined with the continuous-time solution, quantify harmonic and intermodulation distortion of...

A direct conversion modulator-demodulator with even harmonic mixers with emphasis on noise analysis is presented. The circuits consist of even harmonic mixers (EHMs) realized with antiparallel diode pairs (APDPs). We evaluate the different levels of I/Q imbalances and DC offsets and use signal space concepts to analyze the bit error rate (BER) of the proposed transceiver using M-ary QAM schemes...
